Malta has a dynamic motorsport community with thousands of participants and supporters, yet current infrastructure has long fallen short of enabling the sport to develop to professional and internationally competitive standards. To address this gap, SportMalta will implement a major investment project comprising two upgraded, modernised facilities:

1. A Grade A drag racing strip built to international performance, safety, and spectator-service standards; and

2. A Grade 1 karting track capable of hosting local and international competitions, training programmes, and wider community activities.

The Ministry for Education and Sports (MES) will support SportMalta in delivering this project. The support will be provided in line with the applicable parameters and criteria established in Commission Regulation (EU) No 651/2014 of 17 June 2014 declaring certain categories of aid compatible with the internal market in application of Articles 107 and 108 of the Treaty, as amended, and in particular with the conditions established in Chapter 1 and Article 55 thereof. Through this support, SportMalta will upgrade the existing motorsport facilities to achieve full FIA homologation, enabling Malta to host certified local, regional, and international events. The investment will provide a safe, professional environment for motorsport training, competition, and education, while also contributing to national development priorities. These include stimulating employment, fostering local enterprise, boosting tourism, enhancing skills, and strengthening Malta’s visibility as a regional hub for motorsport and leisure activities.
