General Overview

 

Summer Work Experience

 

As part of the national reading campaign Aqra fis-Sajf, the National Literacy Agency (NLA) will be organising a summer literacy programme during summer 2021.

 

Aqra fis-Sajf officials will be supporting these programmes and initiatives coordinated by the Agency. Their duties will include: creation of educational resources, clerical/administrative duties, and editing and recording of reading sessions. They will be expected to be available for work from 08:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., for the whole duration of the summer working phase. The officials will be placed at the National Literacy Agency in Hamrun.

 

 

Online Application

The Students’ Maintenance Grants’ Board welcomes applications from full-time students who are 16 years of age by the closing date of the online application. Placements for this summer work experience is limited and preference will be given to students that have prior experience in previous editions of the summer reading campaigns.

Applications open on Friday, 23rd April 2021 at noon and close on Friday, 21st May 2021 at noon.

 

Students interested in applying as Aqra fis-Sajf officials with the National Literacy Agency, should fill in the online application and attach a scan of their Identity Card, both front and back. Failure to submit accurate information and the requested documents may disqualify students from the scheme.

Aqra fis-Sajf Officials should be proficient in both Maltese and English, and should have a positive attitude towards literacy.

Selected candidates will be expected to sign a Contract of Service before the commencement of the summer working phase.

 

 

  

Remuneration and Entitlement


Remuneration for this work is pegged at an hourly rate of €6.88 in line with scale 16 pay of the Public Service.

Students engaged under this scheme are also entitled to the following:

Other Notes:

1.      Please note that students receive the bonus and any other benefits such as pro rata vacation leave, sick-leave (against presentation of medical certificate) and income supplement on a pro rata basis.

2.     Kindly note that vacation leave which is not availed of till the end of each work phase is non-refundable.

3.     Students are to ensure that once employed, their employment is registered with Jobsplus via the Jobsplus engagement form as per Legal Notice 110/1993. The Jobsplus Termination Form must also be submitted at the end of the summer work phase.

4.     This application form is specifically for the Aqra fis-Sajf campaign and will not be considered for any other scheme.
