As part of the
national reading campaign Aqra fis-Sajf,
the National Literacy Agency (NLA), in collaboration with the Foundation for
Educational Services (FES) and Malta Libraries, will be organising a summer
reading programme in Skolasajf centres and school/public libraries during
summer 2020.
Aqra fis-Sajf officials will be assigned to a
centre/s and/or library to deliver animated reading sessions, in both Maltese
and English. They will be expected to be available for work from 8.30a.m. to
12.30p.m., for the whole duration of the summer working phase.
Selected
officials will be provided with Maltese and English books, suitable for read
aloud and shared reading, to enable them to carry out these reading sessions.
They will be expected to prepare and plan sessions, implement a variety of
reading activities during the reading session, as well as keep a record of
work. It is also the responsibility of the Aqra
fis-Sajf officials to ensure that any competitions or activities related
to the campaign are effectively carried out in their assigned
centres/libraries.
Online Application
The
Students’ Maintenance Grants’ Board welcomes applications from full-time students who are 18 years of age by
the closing date of the online application. Preference
will be given to students reading for a Bachelor’s
Degree at the University of Malta, the Masters in Teaching & Learning (MTL),
and MCAST students following the courses Advanced Diploma in Children’s Care, Learning and Development and Higher
Diploma in Advanced Studies in the Early Years [1].

Students
interested in applying as Aqra fis-Sajf
officials with the National Literacy Agency, should fill in the online
application and attach a scan of their Identity Card, both front and back.
Failure to submit accurate information and the requested documents may
disqualify students from the scheme.
Aqra fis-Sajf Officials should be proficient
in both Maltese and English, and should have a positive attitude towards
reading so as to instil a love of books and reading amongst their assigned
pupils.
Selected
candidates will be expected to sign Contract of Service and attend mandatory
training and observation sessions which will be organised by the NLA, before
the commencement of the summer reading programme.
Remuneration and
Entitlement
Remuneration for
this work is pegged at an hourly rate of €6.69 in line with scale 16 pay of the
Public Service.
Students engaged

Other
Notes:
1. Please note that
students receive the bonus and any other benefits such as pro rata vacation
leave, sick-leave (against presentation of medical certificate) and income
supplement on a pro rata basis.
2. Kindly note that
vacation leave which is not availed of till the end of each work phase is
non-refundable.
3. Students are to
ensure that once employed, their employment is registered with Jobsplus via the
Jobsplus engagement form as per Legal Notice 110/1993. The Jobsplus Termination
Form must also be submitted at the end of the summer work phase.
4. This application
form is specifically for the Aqra fis-Sajf campaign and will not be considered
for any other scheme.
