The National Commission for Further and Higher Education (NCFHE) is the competent authority for licensing, accreditation and quality assurance of further and higher education in Malta. Thus it accredits courses that may be provided by further and higher education institutions in Malta, including Vocational Education and Training (VET) programmes.
Accreditation of VET programmes means that the programme:
- is aligned appropriately to the European Qualifications Framework (EQF) the Malta Qualifications Framework (MQF) and to the European Credit System for Vocational Education and Training (ECVET) and is thus recognised in Malta and European Member States.
- addresses and meets an established industry, enterprise, educational, legislative or community need
provides appropriate competency outcomes and a satisfactory basis for assessment
meets national quality assurance requirements.
In accordance with Subsidiary Legislation 327.433 on Licensing, Accreditation and Quality Assurance, NCFHE maintains a register of accredited Further and Higher Educational Institutions and a list of programmes offered by these licensed institutions, including VET programmes with respective ECVET learning points, available on
www.ncfhe.org.mt. ECVET stands for European Credit System for Vocational Education & Training, and is technical framework for transfer, recognition and, where appropriate, accumulation of individuals’ learning outcomes to achieve a qualification.
