Social, Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties (SEBD)


​Mission Statement

For the child to be engaged and learn in the classroom, the child needs to feel safe, loved and have a sense of belonging. A child’s social and emotional needs must be met before any learning can take place. It’s easier for us to adapt ourselves as professionals than blaming the child exhibiting challenging behaviour.

Service Objectives
  • We support schools to apply positive strategies when dealing with challenging behaviour.
  • We advocate the child encountering social emotional behavioural difficulties.

Eligibility to Service

Students with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties.

Services Offered
  • Receive referrals from schools for consultation on situations of pupils who are encountering social, emotional and behavioural difficulties.
  • Observe students in class so as to give hands on practical measures to the school staff on which positive strategies can be implemented within the class/school environment.
  • Consider offering the child temporary support in a Learning Support Centre. This is the LAST RESORT and is only considered when all levels of intervention have been exhausted.


Referrals are made through the Head of School or INCOs to the Service Manager Special Education/Resource Centres or directly to the SEBD Specialists. The SEBD Specialists will arrange an appointment with the school to visit the school and offer their support.
