1. Malta NARIC will work in collaboration with:

  • the Malta Equivalence Information Centre University of Malta;

  • the Malta Professional and Vocational Qualifications Awards Councils;

  • the legally established boards or councils regulating the professions.

It will broadly act as a national co-ordinator as requested under the general systems directives 89/48/EEC and 98/51/EEC.

2. The aims of Malta NARIC are:

  • to ensure and facilitate appropriate application of the EU Directives regarding comparability of higher education professional and vocational qualifications;

  • to collect and disseminate information related to professional and vocational qualifications in the European Union;

  • to provide information and advice in consultation with the Malta Equivalence Information Centre, the University of Malta and the Malta Professional and Vocational Qualifications Awards Council on the comparability of international and Maltese qualifications;

  • to act as an information and consultation centre to the Commission on related matters;

  • to submit to the Commission a report on the application of the system every two years;

  • to promote recognition of Maltese professional qualifications abroad

3. Method of Working

Malta NARIC:

  • will receive all communications from the Internal Market D G of the Commission dealing with professional qualifications and will be responsible for the timely dissemination of material received to the appropriate institutions;

  • will act as an information centre and as a consultant to interested bodies and will facilitate the implementation of EU directives, decisions or recommendations regarding professional qualifications;

  • will guide students, employers, teaching institutions and interested parties on the equivalence/comparability of qualifications issued in EU member states through consultation with their respective National Academic Recognition and Information Centres;

  • will in consultation with the boards, councils or university as necessary, answer queries submitted by the NARICs in EU member states or by individuals regarding the equivalence / comparability of Maltese qualifications;

  • will promote the recognition of Maltese professional and vocational qualifications abroad;

  • will organise consultation and information meetings with professional boards, University or councils regulating the professions as necessary;

  • will organise general meetings or conferences as necessary for the promotion of professional and vocational qualifications.

4. Relations with the European Commission

Malta NARIC

  • will attend regularly meetings organised by the European Commission Internal Market DG for members of the European Union NARIC network;

  • will act as an information and consultation centre to the Commission;

  • will submit a report on the application of the systems directives to the Commission every two years as expected in directive 89/48/EEC.
